What is the Summer Volunteer Program?

The Mt. Hope Summer Volunteer Program is an 8-week commitment. Volunteers come to live and work at the camp. We start with an orientation where volunteers learn about the camp and get acquainted with each other. We have different areas of service that include: kitchen crew, housekeeping crew, guest services, camp store, and program. Volunteers will get scheduled to work in a new area each week. Each volunteer could also have the opportunity to be a cabin leader or co-cabin leader during our Mt. Hope Camps.

Another portion of our program is spiritual development. We want the volunteers who go through our program to grow in their walk with Christ. We have personal and group devotions that our Volunteer Program Directors lead. Our volunteers also have the opportunity to go to a diverse variety of chapel services multiple times during each week they are at camp.

What does it mean to volunteer?

A volunteer is someone who chooses to freely give of their time and labor. Here at Mt. Hope, we have many different areas of work that you will get scheduled for so that when you leave in August, you will be a well-rounded candidate for future jobs.

While you serve at Mt. Hope you will be creating a team of people to go through your summer journey with you. This will be your support team; family, friends, business owners, etc. You will write support letters, share at your local church, visit companies, and any other way you want to let people know how you are serving. When you share with your team you will inform them of your service for the summer and invite them to support you both financially and through prayer. All donations given in your name will be tax deductible.

God has always abundantly provided for our volunteers, and it is so awesome to see how He works through this process!

Addi Sweet

Hi, I’m Addi! I’ve been attending Hope Commons Church in Chico for 8 years and I have gone to church camps my whole life! In 2021 I went to Mt. Hope for my first time ever and felt a calling to be more involved and active through my community. Now I have been serving in ministry with my youth group for a little over 4 years, and I’m very involved in my church. As this will be my second summer at Mt. Hope, I’m so grateful for this opportunity to grow even more in my faith and make a difference in the lives of others!!
